HAVEN’s smart bulb app was built with a clear mission: to seamlessly integrate lighting control and home security into a single, intuitive experience. Instead of simply offering a way to turn lights on and off, I focused on strategic user experience—allowing homeowners to control lighting at various levels (homewide, by room, by group, or individually), set automation schedules, and even enhance security by assigning motion-triggered alarms to select bulbs. The challenge was to create an interface that balanced robust functionality with effortless usability, ensuring that both tech-savvy users and casual homeowners could navigate the app with ease.
To craft an app that truly felt like an extension of the home, I analyzed how users interact with smart home technology—where friction occurs, what features are most valued, and what elements could enhance daily convenience. Competitor research revealed common pain points: overly complex settings, unclear automation flows, and disjointed security integrations. By addressing these gaps, I designed an experience where lighting and security felt unified. Users can quickly adjust brightness and ambiance, create themed presets, or set timers without unnecessary complexity. For security, arming and disarming motion-sensitive bulbs is as simple as a tap—blending home automation and safety into a cohesive system.
The final app delivers an effortless, visually intuitive way to manage home lighting. The dashboard prioritizes clarity, offering a streamlined view of each room’s status at a glance. Customizable lighting themes and automation tools give users full control over their environment, while the security integration ensures peace of mind without requiring a separate system. Early user feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, emphasizing the ease of setup, intuitive grouping of controls, and the smooth transition between lighting and security features.
